Community Engagement

Community engagement is at the heart of everything PCPA does. We create experiences that invite participants to investigate, document and share their own communities — on their own terms, in their own words.

At the core of our work is something simple but not easy: building authentic relationships. Between people. Between communities. Across our regions. We take the time to show up, listen and earn trust before anything else.

People in regional, rural and remote areas across Australia and the Pacific face real and persistent barriers to creative education and visual storytelling. That inequity drives us. Through genuine engagement, participation and collaboration, we work to close that gap — fostering deeper understanding of ourselves, our communities and the wider region we call home.

‘Regional museums and arts centres in Australia and Papua New Guinea are, in general, underfunded or insecurely funded. Yet these places offer significant opportunities for cultural, social, and economic development in remote and regional areas. The cultural heritage and arts sectors hold unrealised opportunities for the closely neighbouring countries of PNG and Australia to exchange knowledge and skills.’
